Today Chris and I finished moving out of our downtown abode.  We brought a few odds and ends to storage, many items to Goodwill, and even more to the trash chute.

At about 1pm when everything was done and keys were turned in, we swung by Coronado.  Soaking in that gorgeous view was a great way to end our time in San Diego.  So beautiful.

Now we're both road tripping--Chris is almost in Sacramento, and I'm about 1/3 of the way to Texas (stopping in Tucson, AZ for tonight).  I even had the pleasure of enjoying terribly bad karaoke during my hotel dinner tonight.  Hearing Fleetwood Mac and Deanna Carter favorites wailing very off key made my enchilada dinner even more special.

We're sad to leave our friends and the lovely San Diego.  It's been an incredible adventure here, and I know we both feel very lucky to have met such a strong group of awesome people.  Thank you!!!

It's a bit peculiar.  It hasn't quite sunk in yet for either of us that we no longer work at Sony.  It still feels like we've taken a few days off to move and will return to our coworkers at the office later.  But it just ain't so...
Moving is one of my least favorite things to do.  The packing, organizing, stressing, bubble wrapping, etc that has taken place over the last 72 hours is sufficiently enough for me.  Normally when you move, it's going directly to your new place, where it will quickly be unpacked.  However, in this case, our belongings are being stored for 3 months so it's critical that they're packed "right."

By last night, after 3 days of packing, we had about 93% of it done.  The movers were supposed to come at 9am this morning, so we decided to wake up at 7am and finish off the remaining 7%.  At 8:45am, I get a call from the movers HQ.  They claimed the moving truck "broke down" on the way here.  They asked if we could reschedule for later in the afternoon or tomorrow--neither of which was convenient (or even possible) for us.  Ultimately, they gave me a discount, promised to be here by noon and finish up by 3pm, so we could attend our previous commitments.  Chris and I made the best of it and decided to perfect our packing prep work.

12:15pm rolls around, and in walks 3 scrawny guys.  I'm pretty sure I could've taken any of them down in a second.  Then, they proceeded to work hard for 5 hours, but their abilities did not lend themselves to being fast.  Chris was the best mover of the bunch!  The job was completed 5 hours later with the storage unit packed to the top (really, how did we ever have that much stuff in a tiny one bedroom?!)  On a better note, we did somehow find 3 movers, all with the first name "fool."  What are the chances?

Now here we are--pile of stuff headed to Sacramento with Chris tomorrow, more stuff on my trek to Texas, and of course, our backpacks.  Just some final things to wrap up in the morning (cleaning, donations, etc) before we hand in our keys.  Then, we're off to the beach!  How can we possibly leave without one more trip to the best part of San Diego?  As a side note, 6 weeks ago, Chris and I decided that we would hit the beach at least once a week.  Check.

At about noon tomorrow, after beach time, we head to Sacramento (Chris) and Texas (Katie).  I am definitely not the lucky one in that scenario.  I'll stay in Texas for a few days and then head up to Sacramento to join Chris.  We'll leave for Dublin on September 13th.

So stay tuned...we're 2 weeks away from our departure on this journey!!!  Thanks again for reading our updates, even though they're not too exciting just yet :)

Change is hard. Even when it's exciting and right, it's still pretty difficult to end certain things. Tomorrow is our last day at Sony, and I must be honest. I'm sad. There's still a lot to finish up at work (and home) for both of us, but saying goodbye to our teams and friends is not so awesome. Maybe everyone can fit in our ginormous backpacks...
